The Gypsy Queens and Kings a legendary show on tour feat. Fanfare Ciocarlia (Romania), Kaloome (France - Perpignan), Esma Redzepova (Macedonia), Lijljana Buttler (Bosnia), Jony Iliev (Bulgaria), Mitsou (Hungary), Florentina Sandu (Romania), Aurelia Sandu (Romania), Tantica Ionita (Romania) 18 Roma musicians on stage, coming together from at least four different countries, cast a spell over their audiences with the great voices of their people and virtuoso instrumentals. The Gypsy Brass heroes FANFARE CIOCARLIA from Romania decided to invite the great Roma voices to join them in the studio to work together with them on their 5th studio album. They meet SABAN BAJRAMOVIC from Serbia, ESMA REDZEPOVA from Macedonia, JONY ILIEV from Bulgaria, LJILJANA BUTLER from Bosnia, DAN ARMEANCA and FLORENTINA SANDU from Romania, MITSOU from Hungary and KALOOME - Gitanos from Perpignan. They appear to be worlds apart and the differences could hardly be bigger. And yet there are bonds which build bridges and reconcile cultural differences: They are Gypsies; they speak the same language and have created a life for themselves in music. The CD "Queens and Kings" was released in February 2007 by Asphalt Tango Records. The real skill of these Roma musicians however is to work their audience up into a frenzy with their live performances. A reviewer of STERN, the biggest cultural magazine in Germany, wrote about the audiences of Fanfare Ciocarlia´s concerts:"...they're going wild, berserk, freaking out. Designer jackets are flying obsessively into the corners and abandoned worn-out health shoes through the concert halls - it's the same everywhere: Wherever the Romanian brass band inflate their cheeks, no one can stand still - not by the coolest stretch of the imagination..." THE GYPSY QUEENS AND KINGS is an epic celebration of Gypsy life and song combining the power of the brass section of FANFARE CIOCARLIA with the guitars of KALOOME and the soul of the great voices of the Roma cominity. Fanfare Ciocarlia had toured Spain and the USA with the Gypsy Caravan (see Jasmine Dellal's documentary When The Road Bends: Tales Of A Gypsy Caravan) and enjoyed the bonds formed with fellow musicians. So now legends of Gypsy song join them on stage! As they launch into Roma anthem Djelem, Djelem band and guests sing and play as one. Celebration time? Believe.
